Education and Public Outreach at ASIAA

There are 3 goals in education and outreach effort at ASIAA:

  • Bridging the gap of astronomy education and research
  • Promoting ASIAA-led projects and scientific achievement
  • Raising awareness of astronomy in Taiwan

The Education and Public Outreach (EPO) team at ASIAA is responsible for public affairs, media relations, creating popular science articles, designing hands-on activities, as well as conducting educational and outreach programs and partnerships.

We regularly share updates on ASIAA science highlights, and coordinate the distribution of news releases and press conferences. The latest information and videos are promoted on ASIAA's Facebook and YouTube channel. For over a decade, we have consistently published the IAA Quarterly (IAAQ) which has been distributed to over 150 schools in Taiwan. The annual Academia Sinica Open House and teachers' workshops are activities we dedicate time and energy to. Finally, we work with various museums and astronomical societies to assist with exhibitions and public talks. Please visit our Education and Public Outreach website for more details.

One of the central missions of the ASIAA is to help educate next-generation astronomers in Taiwan. ASIAA has been working with universities to train graduate students by offering a wide range of research topics in both astronomy and instrumentation.

Apart from graduate student program, we are also working to bridge the gap between astronomy teaching and research. The ASIAA Summer Student Program serves this purpose. The goal is to provide students an opportunity to study selected topics in astronomy, astrophysics and astronomical instrumentation which they might not have in their own university. In July each year we have more than 20 students from both inland and abroad to start their adventure in the world of astronomy research and in last August they present their first research results.
